The Jester and the King

Long ago, in a beautiful kingdom surrounded by green hills, there lived a powerful king named King Adrian. He was respected by his people, but there was one problem with him: he did not like hearing unpleasant truths.

At the royal palace lived a young jester named Milo. Unlike the other people in the palace, Milo was not afraid of the king. He made jokes, played tricks, and entertained everyone with his clever words.

One morning, King Adrian announced, “I want everyone in my kingdom to tell me how wonderful I am. Anyone who speaks against me will be punished.”

The ministers immediately praised the king.

“You are the wisest king in the world!”

“You are the greatest ruler!”

“No kingdom is as fortunate as ours!”

The king smiled proudly.

But Milo stood quietly in the corner.

The king noticed him.

“Milo, why are you silent?” the king asked.

Milo smiled and replied, “Because I am trying to think of a compliment that is true.”

The room became silent.

The king frowned. “Are you saying that I am not wise?”

Milo bowed respectfully.

“I am saying that even the wisest king can make mistakes.”

The king became angry and ordered Milo to leave the palace.

That evening, however, something unexpected happened. Heavy rain caused the river near the kingdom to overflow. The fields were flooded, and many villagers lost their crops.

The king immediately called his ministers.

“What should we do?”

The ministers looked at one another. Nobody wanted to give the king bad news.

Finally, Milo stepped forward.

“You should listen to the farmers,” he said. “They know the land better than anyone. If you help them rebuild the fields, the kingdom can recover.”

The king remembered Milo's words.

Instead of becoming angry, he followed the advice.

The king visited the villages, listened to the farmers, and ordered workers to repair the damaged fields. He also opened the royal food stores so hungry families could receive food.

Months later, the kingdom became stronger than before.

King Adrian called Milo to the palace.

“You were brave enough to tell me the truth when everyone else was afraid,” the king said. “A ruler who only hears praise will never learn from his mistakes.”

From that day forward, Milo was no longer just the king's jester. He became one of the king's most trusted advisers.

And King Adrian learned an important lesson:

A true friend is not the person who always praises you. A true friend is the person who is brave enough to tell you the truth.

“ہماری سلطنت آپ کی وجہ سے سب سے خوش قسمت ہے!”

بادشاہ یہ سن کر بہت خوش ہوا۔

لیکن مائلو خاموش کھڑا رہا۔

بادشاہ نے اسے دیکھا اور پوچھا:

“مائلو! تم خاموش کیوں ہو؟”

مائلو مسکرایا اور بولا:

“میں ایسی تعریف سوچ رہا ہوں جو سچ بھی ہو۔”

پورے دربار میں خاموشی چھا گئی۔

بادشاہ ناراض ہو گیا۔

“کیا تم یہ کہنا چاہتے ہو کہ میں عقلمند نہیں ہوں؟”

مائلو نے ادب سے سر جھکایا اور کہا:

“میرا مطلب صرف یہ ہے کہ دنیا کا سب سے عقلمند بادشاہ بھی کبھی نہ کبھی غلطی کر سکتا ہے۔”

بادشاہ کو غصہ آ گیا اور اس نے مائلو کو محل سے جانے کا حکم دے دیا۔

اسی شام ایک زوردار بارش ہوئی۔ سلطنت کے قریب بہنے والا دریا طغیانی کا شکار ہو گیا۔ پانی کھیتوں میں داخل ہو گیا اور بہت سے کسانوں کی فصلیں تباہ ہو گئیں۔

بادشاہ نے فوراً اپنے وزیروں کو بلایا۔

“اب ہمیں کیا کرنا چاہیے؟”

وزیر ایک دوسرے کا منہ دیکھنے لگے۔ کوئی بھی بادشاہ کو بری خبر دینے کی ہمت نہیں کر رہا تھا۔

آخرکار مائلو آگے بڑھا اور بولا:

“بادشاہ سلامت، آپ کو کسانوں کی بات سننی چاہیے۔ وہ زمین کو ہم سب سے بہتر جانتے ہیں۔ اگر آپ ان کے کھیت دوبارہ آباد کرنے میں مدد کریں گے تو ہماری سلطنت دوبارہ خوشحال ہو سکتی ہے۔”

بادشاہ کو مائلو کی بات یاد آئی۔

اس بار وہ ناراض نہیں ہوا۔ اس نے مائلو کے مشورے پر عمل کیا۔

بادشاہ خود دیہات میں گیا، کسانوں کی بات سنی اور تباہ شدہ کھیتوں کی مرمت کا حکم دیا۔ اس نے شاہی گوداموں سے غریب اور بھوکے لوگوں کے لیے خوراک بھی تقسیم کروائی۔

کچھ مہینوں بعد سلطنت پہلے سے بھی زیادہ مضبوط اور خوشحال ہو گئی۔

بادشاہ نے مائلو کو دوبارہ محل میں بلایا۔

بادشاہ نے کہا:

“تم نے اس وقت مجھے سچ بتانے کی ہمت کی جب باقی سب لوگ صرف میری تعریف کر رہے تھے۔ جو حکمران صرف تعریف سنتا ہے، وہ اپنی غلطیوں سے کبھی نہیں سیکھ سکتا۔”

اس دن کے بعد مائلو صرف بادشاہ کا مسخرہ نہیں رہا بلکہ بادشاہ کا سب سے قابلِ اعتماد مشیر بن گیا۔

بادشاہ ایڈرین نے ایک اہم سبق سیکھا:

سچا دوست وہ نہیں جو ہر وقت آپ کی تعریف کرے۔ سچا دوست وہ ہے جو آپ کو سچ بتانے کی ہمت رکھتا ہو۔

Moral of the Story

Never be afraid of honest advice. Praise may make us happy, but truth helps us become better.
